What is Luke O'Connor House

Luke O'Connor House is Offa Community Council's community resource centre located on Hightown's Barracks Field estate. Formerly the Wrexham office of Wales and West Housing Association, the Community Council took over the running of Luke O'Connor House in early 2001 with the aid of a £33,000 Sustainable Communities grant from the National Assembly for Wales. This helped finance internal renovation, a Development Worker and various equipment, including computing facilities. The Community Development Officer (Debbie French) is responsible for the day-to-day running of Luke O'Connor House.

In addition to the Community Development Worker, other staff are also based at Luke O'Connor House. The Barracks Field Tenants' Association (BFTA) has an office where residents can speak to the Chair at any time. Also HAFAL runs the Wrexham Outreach Tenancy Support (WOTS) who support twenty Wales and West Housing Association tenants in Hightown and surrounding areas. They provide basic skills in maintenance of their tenancy, help with social living skills and integration into the larger community where appropriate. Hightown Communities 1st have now also taken up residents at the centre and will be working in the Hightown area with residents.

There are various courses that run at Luke O'Connor House with some courses being partly funded by Luke O’Connor House Management Committee. Hightown Communities 1st are also looking at offering courses in the area. Also at the centre we now hold a food co op which runs on a Tuesday for further information contact the centre.
